Business Designers at Method work to bring new products, services, and businesses to life. We help establish a platform for problem solving and ensure that the design process is focused on developing high-impact solutions, anchored in market opportunities and user need. Drawing on a combination of brand, business, and product expertise, our team helps clients use design and strategy to build and grow.
Our Business Design Directors lead design projects with a deep understanding of the business goals, but with no less a human-centered process. You’ll collaborate with designers, Project Managers and Client Services, and with our clients as we bring to life services and experiences that transform their organization. Through the team’s research we’ll uncover insight that helps shift towards future opportunity - even before that opportunity is obvious.

Key responsibilities

  • Serve rapidly changing customer needs with emerging technology
  • Create new digital-driven experiences across industries, both inside our client’s organizations and in building and launching new digital ventures
  • Define “the future of” for startups and the Fortune 500
  • Use design to help clients work smarter and more effectively
  • Analyze trends, threats, and opportunities in the market
  • Deep primary research of customer and stakeholder needs (ethnographies, interviews, surveys)
  • Synthesize insights and build narrative
  • Define KPIs, map competitive landscapes, create roadmaps
  • Participate and guide developing a highly differentiated product or service concept
  • Assess economic viability of varying product and service concepts
  • Put pen to paper (yes our strategists sketch too, however poorly)

Research & Strategy Skills:

  • Ability to conduct key business stakeholder & key user interviews to understand requirements and insights that shape product strategies and design decisions
  • Experience planning and hosting collaborative workshops, user research and/or usability testing and conducting comparative/competitive landscape and content audits
  • Ability to create user experience goals and conceptual frameworks; user personas, related key user journeys and relevant flowcharts; information architecture and, as necessary, content strategies

Project Leadership

  • Problem framing, brief development, ongoing project engagement and design support
  • Project oversight and ensuring that team activities are focused on value-adding activities
  • Shaping and refinement of project deliverables
  • Along with Client Services, provide an escalation point for delivery team and clients

Business Development

  • Develop relationships with senior, prospective clients
  • Partner with Client Services Director to maintain and grow relationships with current clients, helping them to uncover problems and opportunity spaces
  • Uncover opportunities in reframing new client conversations to a strategic outcome
  • Develop a clear point-of-view on the client opportunity area, and create content to convey Method’s intent
  • Lead and participate in proposal/pitch presentation, including both creating independently, and guiding team in creating perspectives

Discipline Leadership

  • Manage and grow junior business designers
  • Serve as a SME globally for topics related to business viability, strategy, and thematic opportunity spaces in multiple categories

Qualifications and Attributes

  • (8-10 years) Deep expertise across brand, product, and business strategy (any two)
  • Experience working with diverse design teamsUnderstanding of technology and product development cycle
  • Past strategy, business design, or consulting experience
  • MBA or undergraduate in business is a plus, but not required
  • You are an incurable problem solver who loves partnering to create beauty, impact, and value
  • Passion for the creative process
  • Knack for evocative storytelling
  • Ability to break down complex problems in logical, rational ways
  • Ability to manage scoping, execution, and delivery individual work streams on a larger engagement
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills
